Indrayani Pishe

It is with great sadness that the family of Indrayani Pishe announces her passing on November 24, 2022.  Born on January 15, 1945, she was the youngest daughter of the late Ganapatrao and Gangubai Tandulwakar of Budh, Maharashtra, India.

She was also pre-deceased by her 3 brothers, Kashinath, Prabhakar and Vishwanath Tandulwadkar, and is survived by her 2 sisters, Pramila Wadkar and Pushpa Hukkeri.  In addition, Indrayani had a huge extended family that all loved her deeply.

With 5 siblings and 10 cousins (who she referred to as all brothers and sisters), she helped raise her many nieces and nephews as if they were her own.  She obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) from Rajaram College in Kohlapur, India.  In 1970, Indrayani bravely left all of her family behind and flew to Canada on her own, not knowing the language or culture and never having left India.  She then joined her husband, Anand Pishe, as he pursued a career as a Structural Engineer in Fredericton.

Although her main focus was to raise her children and give them the best possible life in Canada, she had an adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit.  She undertook many successful business ventures in partnership with her husband throughout the years.  Because she had a deep love for all people and especially children, she worked in home care and later completed her diploma in early childhood education and opened a daycare in her own home.

One of her greatest pleasures was feeding people. She was well known to be an exceptional cook.  Her food was truly special and as deep in flavour as was her love.  If you had the fortune of tasting her food, you would find yourself full beyond capacity and she would have the biggest smile on her face knowing how much you enjoyed it.

Above all, she was so proud of her family including her husband of 52 years, Anand Pishe, her son Tushar (Colleen), her daughter Rashmi (Hugh), and her four grandchildren, Maya, Nikhil, Neel and Leena.  She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family, and especially her grandchildren who were her everything.

In her memory, she continues to teach us how to be courageous and how to embrace all that life has to offer.  She still teaches us to relax, enjoy each other’s company, laugh, and to love unconditionally.  She was so funny and often laughed so hard while telling jokes even when the punchline didn’t make sense or if she made the whole thing up.  She was a generous 4’10” but she was larger than life!
